SITKURA

Tasked to create a seat which remained within the dimensions of 12"x12"x12", this seat transforms into a day bag to carry refreshments for the Japanese hanami cherry blossom tradition.

Sketch Ideation

Explorations focused on a form with structure merged with ergonomics and had adequate room for carrying things. Attention is paid to the joinery of the materials.

Rapid Prototyping

After exploring initial studies numerous components to support the user’s weight, I found that two main end pieces, working in tension with the fabric, provided sufficient support which ultimately lead to the final form.
